Seeking Candidates for the Board of Library Trustees

volunteer-sm.pngHelp keep the Library moving forward by becoming a Trustee! The Batavia Public Library is seeking candidates for the Board of Library Trustees. There are three 4-year terms coming open for residents who would begin serving in May 2019.

Primary responsibilities of Library Trustees include establishing written policies to govern library operations and programs; establishing and overseeing the annual budget; working with staff to evaluate the effectiveness of library operations, services, and programs; employing an Executive Director; and promoting awareness of the Library’s activities and services to the community.

The Library Board meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7pm. Trustees are assigned to serve on one or more of the Board’s four standing committees, which meet periodically throughout the year. Board information and activities are posted on this website.

Batavia Public Library District, a special unit of local government, is governed by an elected Board of Library Trustees composed of seven residents of the Library District. Trustees are elected at large at the biennial Consolidated Election (in odd-numbered years). Members serve four-year terms. Members serve without compensation.

Terms of office expire for three Library Trustee positions next year. Library District voters will be electing three Trustees for 4-year terms, through May 2023. The vote will take place in the April 2, 2019, consolidated election.
