Pick up a book from the Margin Project display, check it out or read it at the Library, find a colored marker or pen, and add your comments, questions, and reactions to the margins of the book. (No, really!) When you return it, hopefully, someone else will do the same. Then you can check the book later and read their comments—kind of like a book club. Check it out!

High School Summer Reading 2019-20

Requirement:  Students should read ONE book from the list for their grade in the 2019-20 school year.  Books are available at Batavia Public and other area libraries. Audiobooks are also available for some of the selections.  The books are high-interest titles and were selected with input from staff and students. Incentives:  Students are also encouraged to read TWO more books of their choice and to earn incentive prizes through the Teen Summer Reading at Batavia Public Library or the student’s public library.

Why read during the summer?

Reading during the summer helps students prevent the “summer slide” of skills, and it encourages the habit of reading.  Like athletes, musicians, and artists, readers need to practice to maintain and improve their skills.  Also, summer is a great time to discover new books, perhaps the book behind a movie blockbuster or the book that everyone is discussing.  Participation in a public library’s Teen Summer Reading program helps students develop lifelong learning skills! Interested in purchasing your book?  The BHS-LRC will be hosting a book fair at the Barnes and Noble in Geneva Commons on May 18th from 10-4.  A percentage of the proceeds will be given to the BHS-LRC.
